About us

Mission & Philosophy

Our mission is to shape and re-communicate ideas through three-dimensionality for the education and science world.

In the foreground of our work are quality, commitment and sustainability in design, but also social and societal aspects. Thus, the results of our projects should not only be unique special representations but above all communication tools and sources of inspiration which encourage interaction with its stakeholders.

MODEL+DESIGN pursues the vision of a permanent implementation as university teaching and also that the teaching will be introduced in other universities following our example.

MODELL and DESIGN is a unique academic institution for design model making in Germany. It is the symbiotic networking of teaching with research activities on the one hand and practical relevance on the other, which gives rise to new and unconventional solutions to complex problems.

Through the model, contents and results become literally “comprehensible” for students and scientists as well as for non-academic addressees. Drafts, ideas and concepts become tangible, communicable and representable by means of three-dimensional objects. The three-dimensional object is the tactile and thus, in the process of creation and in the perception of what has been created, the directly accessible concretization with properties that the purely virtually constructed reality lacks. It completes the communicative access to reality.

As a universal means of communication, the model is interdisciplinary and by definition an inclusive means of research and scientific communication. It builds bridges between internal and external cooperation partners, between disciplines and faculties, and represents a forward-looking form of representation in a complex, globalized world.

“Especially at a time when the virtual plays an increasingly important role and the opinion prevails that everything can be done with CAD and can be produced by 3D printer, not enough importance can be attached to the craft basis of the model building activity, because it precedes everything else. That’s why I emphasize your outstanding contribution during every tour of the exhibition, recommend you to others and hope that in the future there will again be such a fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation.”
